An international Symposium and the 38th Regular Session of the General Council of the Organization of African Trade Unions Unity (OATUU) was held from 23rd – 25th February 2015 in the Asmara Palace Hotel and NCEW conference hall under the theme “Trade Union Reforms in Africa”

In the statement he delivered at the opening ceremony of the International Symposium in which ministers, senior official of the

Government and PFDJ, heads of national associations, ambassadors, representatives of various international organizations active in Eritrea and guests attended Mr. Tekeste Baire, the General Secretary of NCEW, stated that the Organization of African Trade Unions Unity (OATUU) was a continental umbrella organization which struggles for the rights and interests of workers, and mentioned that so far it has made significant achievements. However, he further disclosed that since the challenges that lie ahead are immense he expects participants of the symposium to make contributions with the generation of useful ideas.
